Why Ruto might pick Ndindi Nyoro as running mate

Keen political observers will have noticed that Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro (pictured) has intensified his attacks on President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The youthful legislator has become the face of Uhuru rebellion in Mt Kenya region and has taken every opportunity to pour cold water on the Uhuru and Raila-led Azimio la Umoja initiative.

Nyoro has been making scathing attacks on the President like claiming the head of state has failed Central Kenya despite the mega infrastructural projects put up by his administration in the region.

The MP has been claiming Uhuru has left the Central region feeling ignored, abandoned and betrayed by his administration.

The legislator has further been attacking Raila saying that he should go back to Bondo.

“The Kikuyu & entire Gema is solidly behind William Ruto. Central Kenya is heartbroken & bleeding; they feel ignored, abandoned & betrayed by Uhuru. #NumbersDontLie. Wanjohi can go cling to power in South Sudan. Raila can go hang in Bondo. We're African & Africa is our business!” said Nyoro in a recent tweet.

But what many do not know is that Nyoro is making the scathing attacks on Uhuru hoping to please his master, Ruto, who will reward him by picking him as running mate.

Indeed, some leaders affiliated to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) are proposing Ruto picks Nyoro as his running mate.

They are saying Nyoro, who was born in 1985, is a seasoned politician who has been well mentored and thus suits the coveted position.

The leaders are led by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who has given up on getting the position following the entry of Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi in Ruto’s inner core.

The leaders who had accompanied Ruto during his tour in Murang'a County heaped praises on Nyoro for his unwavering support for the DP's presidential bid.

"Ndindi has proven to be a seasoned leader and if he gets a higher rank he shall be able to serve the country better," Gachagua said.

Adding: "His development track record speaks for itself and it shows he has the capacity to do better things."

In an indirect reference to this proposal, Ruto said Nyoro is one of his staunch supporters and he has been helping woo the youth in the country to his side.

"I know the people of Kiharu have not been seeing him here at home and that's because has been accompanying me everywhere I go," Ruto said.

"I would urge you with humility to set him free so that we can go hunt for votes to be able to form the next government," he added.

The DP also said he owes a lot to the people of Murang'a who have been supporting him all through.

"I promise I won't let you down when I take over the government, there is a lot in store for you," he said.

Nyoro on his part said he fervently supports Ruto because he believes in his leadership.

But what the Kikuyu leaders are not telling the electorate is that if Ruto picks the seasoned Mudavadi as his running mate, they will have difficulties campaigning for UDA and Ruto’s presidential bid in Mt Kenya region.

That’s why the want Ruto to pick the inexperienced Nyoro as running mate fearing a backlash from Mt Kenya voters should the second in command names Mudavadi as his running mate.

Nyoro is also a Yes Man who cannot dare challenge Ruto, even if he destroys the interests of Mt Kenya if elected President.
