Deputy President William Ruto
has lifted the lid on why he donates wheelbarrows to youths in Mt Kenya region
but donates buses to schools and churches in his Kalenjin backyard.
Speaking in Kalenjin dialect
after the handing-over ceremony of school buses to Sugoi Girls Secondary
School, Chepsaita Secondary School and Kapsaos Secondary School and the
official opening of Turbo NG-CDF office in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, Ruto
lifted the lid on reasons he donates wheelbarrows to Kikuyus.
He said: “Inomitei
tulwet oliiii oliiii ogochini makoraekab kap kokoyo wiiilparishek ingaitu olieb
kaa ko maa basishek chu. Maa berber kou yoo ipwote bichundon boo tulwet".
TRANSLATION: "Nikiwa uko Mlima Kenya napeana
wheelbarrows na Mikokoteni, nikifika hapa nyumbani napeana buses na kujenga
mahospital. Mimi sio mjinga vile wananiona.
(When I'm in Mt Kenya I donate
wheelbarrows and handcarts, when I'm here at home I donate buses and also help
build hospitals. I’m not a fool as they think. I will ensure that I push them into eternal
poverty".
