Resign, LSK tells Chitembwe over corruption allegations
The Law society of Kenya (LSK), Nairobi branch wants High Court Judge Justice Said Juma Chitembwe to resign over corruption allegations leveled against him.
The branch Chairman, Erick Theuri says Chitembwe cannot continue being office in the face of allegations touching on his conduct at the Judiciary.
“We have received with concern videos circulating on social media depicting a person said to be the Honorable Justice Chitembwe, a judge of the High Court of Kenya currently sitting in the Civil Division at the Milimani High Court, engaged in discussions that reveal serious grounds of judicial misconduct,” said Theuri
“Whereas the authenticity of the videos has not been established, on the face of it there is sufficient material to believe that the said Judge should offer an explanation,” he added
“In the event that the allegations against him are true then he should do the honorable and immediately resign from office. In event also that the allegations are not true but he was engaged in with these shadowy characters then he must resign,” Theuri said
Theuri has further called for speedy investigations by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) within the next 14 days to determine whether the Judge has a case to answer.
“We demand the JSC to expedite investigations into the complains against the judge and to determine within the next 14 days whether the same merits a case against the judge to warrant the formation of a tribunal to investigate his conduct or otherwise,” Theuri stated
Theuri warned failure by JSC to launch investigations against the alleged graft claims, the LSK shall lead advocates within Nairobi in a protest to eject the Judge from his chambers and boycott his court until the allegations are processed to a logical completion.
