Blinken visits Kenya

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken Tuesday night arrived in Nairobi Kenya for a two-day State visit.

The plane carrying Blinken landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 1am with Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo as well as officials from the US Embassy at hand to receive him.

Blinken is on a four day of Africa and is also expected to visit Senegal and Nigeria.

“Vipi WaKenya! Glad to be in Kenya, a nation with which we have a deep and long-standing friendship. Looking forward to meeting with government officials and civil society to discuss our shared interests and affirm our strategic partnership,” he tweeted.

 He will meet President Uhuru Kenyatta for engagements on US-Kenya cooperation, the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, combating the climate crisis, advancing peace and security among other issues.

According to US Embassy, Blinken will discuss with representatives from the Kenyan Government, shared interests as members of the UN Security Council that includes addressing the current security situation in Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan.

“He will also advance U.S.-Kenyan cooperation on ending COVID-19, improving clean energy access, and protecting the environment.”

The Embassy further said the Secretary of State will also reiterate his Governments’ support towards Kenya for a peaceful and inclusive election in 2022.
